DEVELOPMENT: UCSB receives approval for 2,224-bed project. The project, located on a roughly 5-acre site near Harder Stadium between Mesa Road and Stadium Road, is the first in a two-phase plan by UCSB to address the university’s growing housing needs. Expected to be completed by fall 2027, the San Benito project will include seven new residential and support buildings, a new Central Utility Plant, roadway modifications near the stadium, and enhanced bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. The second phase of the plan, which will add another 1,400 beds, is anticipated to be completed by 2029.
