NEWS ROUNDUP

ACQUISITION: Tailwind acquires 576 beds. Tailwind Group has acquired The Beacon, a 180-unit, 576-bed student housing property in Auburn, Alabama. The transaction was brokered by Newmark, while financial terms were not disclosed. The previous owner, Campus Advantage, had purchased the property a decade ago for $21.7 million. That acquisition was backed by a $16.3 million Fannie Mae loan originated by Manufacturers and Traders Trust.

DISPOSITION: Newmark sells 1,250-unit portfolio. Newmark has announced the successful arrangement of the largest student housing portfolio sale in the U.S. so far this year—a five-property transaction totaling 1,248 units and 3,693 beds across Florida, Texas, Indiana, and North Carolina. The portfolio was sold by a joint venture between Nuveen and The Preiss Company. The deal was brokered by Newmark’s Ryan Lang, Jack Brett, Ben Harkrider, Jordan Roeschlaub, Chris Kramer, Ben Roelke, and Peter Griesinger.

DEVELOPMENT: York College breaks ground on student housing expansion. York College of Pennsylvania is moving forward with a major expansion of Northside Commons, its largest student residence hall. Originally completed in 2011 and housing over 270 students, the building will grow by 204 new beds, bringing much-needed housing capacity as the college experiences a surge in enrollment. The $26 million project is slated for completion ahead of the Fall 2026 semester and will feature upgraded furniture, secure Wi-Fi, and air conditioning throughout the new rooms.

PEOPLE MOVES: Muinzer announces senior leadership promotion. Muinzer has announced the promotion of Michael Snyder to President. Snyder will continue to serve in his current role as COO, providing dual leadership as the company enters a new phase of strategic expansion. “As we transition into this new stage of growth for our firm, I am confident that Michael’s outstanding leadership and operational expertise will be instrumental in advancing and executing the vision for Muinzer” - Marc Muinzer, CEO.
