NEWS ROUNDUP

ACQUISITION: Vesper Holdings acquires 385-bed community. Vesper Holdings has acquired Yugo Louisville Nine, a 385-bed student housing property near the University of Louisville campus, and has renamed it The Nine. Built in 2016, the six-story community offers two-, three-, four-, and five-bedroom units with bed-to-bath parity. Amenities include a 24-hour fitness center, study center, yoga and spin room, coffee bar, game room, resort-style pool, sun deck, fire pit, dog park, and group study lounges. CBRE represented the undisclosed seller in the sale, while Aaron Moll of Berkadia arranged an undisclosed amount of acquisition financing for Vesper.

DEVELOPMENT: ACC breaks ground on 1,200-bed residence hall. A public-private partnership between American Campus Communities and Northeastern University has broken ground on a 1,200-bed residence hall on Northeastern’s Boston campus. The 23-story project will include 11,000 square feet of publicly accessible community space, including a second-floor outdoor deck, 4,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, shared learning areas, and wellness amenities.

MANAGEMENT: Preiss adds 2,564 beds across six new management assignments. Preiss expanded its third-party management platform in the first quarter of 2026 by adding six new assignments totaling 2,564 beds across six university markets. Adam Byrley, chief operating officer at Preiss, said the growth reflects owner confidence in the company’s integrated owner-operator model and its ability to apply the same value-creation approach it uses on its own portfolio.

PEOPLE MOVES: Gilbane Development names new director. Gilbane Development has appointed Mark Lawson as development director for business development in its Tampa Bay office, adding a higher education and public-private partnership specialist to support the company’s expanding university development pipeline. In the role, Lawson will work with Geoff Eisenacher, vice president of development at Gilbane Development, and the firm’s P3 team to build relationships with colleges and universities, source new partnerships, and strengthen Gilbane’s national higher education strategy.
