NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: WKU approves $350 million partnership. Western Kentucky University’s Board of Regents has approved a public-private partnership with Gilbane Development Company to modernize and manage the university’s housing portfolio in what officials called the largest investment in WKU’s history. Geoff Eisenacher, VP of development at Gilbane Development, said the initiative is centered on students and aims to create modern living-learning environments that support belonging, success, and the overall Hilltopper experience. Groundbreaking is scheduled for fall 2026, with the new facility expected to open in fall 2028. Inwood Management will handle day-to-day operations and maintenance alongside WKU’s Residence Life team.

DEVELOPMENT: Sweetwater approves early plans for $4.6 billion redevelopment. Sweetwater has approved early plans for a $4.6 billion redevelopment project on the former Li’l Abner Mobile Home Park site, a 94.5-acre property near Florida International University that could become one of the largest redevelopment projects in Miami-Dade County.

DISPOSITION: Berkadia arranges sale of 176 beds. Berkadia has arranged the sale of Chenango Place, a 176-bed asset serving Binghampton University students. Berkadia’s Shawn Lubic, Kevin Larimer, Travis Prince, and Victoria Marks handled the sale.

DEVELOPMENT: Boise State wins approval for flexible 10-year campus growth plan. The Idaho State Board of Education has approved Boise State University’s new 10-year master plan, which shifts away from rigid building-by-building planning and instead uses flexible development zones for academics, research, housing, and student life. Annie Hightower, Boise State’s chief operating officer, said earlier plans were too prescriptive and often led to costly updates when funding opportunities changed, while Drew Alexander, associate vice president for campus operations, said the new plan is organized around four focus areas: academics and research, student housing and campus life, mobility and infrastructure, and campus-community integration.
