NEWS ROUNDUP
ACQUISITION: Greystar enters Irish student housing market. Greystar has entered the Irish student housing market by acquiring Point Campus, a Dublin-based, 966-bed complex, for €150 million. Claire Solon, Managing Director of Greystar Ireland, highlighted the group's enthusiasm for entering the Irish student accommodation market, noting the significant demand for high-quality housing from both domestic and international students. DLA Piper, with a team led by Kathi Ó Riain, advised Greystar on this acquisition.
ACQUISITION: Landmark Properties acquires Ann Arbor site. Landmark Properties has acquired the Galleria Mall site in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with plans to develop The Metropolitan on South U, an 18-story student housing community. The development will feature 241 units, providing a total of 950 beds, and approximately 5,200 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Amenities are set to include a clubhouse, fitness center, pool, and rooftop lounge. This marks Landmark's third ground-up residential development and seventh managed project in the Ann Arbor market.
DEVELOPMENT: Gilbane breaks ground on 485-bed project. Gilbane has commenced construction on Pique, a 485-bed student housing development in Berkeley, CA. The eight-story building is scheduled for completion in summer 2026, aligning with the 2026-2027 academic year. “We are focused on making every inch count with efficiency, privacy, and functionality at the core of the design, driving innovation that caters to the needs of Berkeley students at an affordable price point” - Christian Cerria, Gilbane.
DEVELOPMENT: Fresno State begins work on new affordable student housing complex. Fresno State has commenced construction on a new affordable student housing project, marking the university's first major housing initiative since 1968. The development will add 228 apartment-style beds to Fresno State's housing portfolio. Funding for the $60 million project includes a $33.7 million affordable student housing grant from the state and approximately $20 million from California State University systemwide revenue bonds. Fresno State President Dr. Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval and Director of Student Housing Erin Boele emphasized the project's significance and highlighted its benefits for students.
PEOPLE MOVES: Northmarq brings in new senior vice principal. Northmarq has expanded its national student housing platform by appointing Greg Marx as Senior Vice President and will report to Justin Glasgow, Managing Director and National Director of Northmarq’s student housing platform. In his new role, Marx will focus on institutional student housing advisory services, including investment sales and debt and equity originations.
PEOPLE MOVES: Parallel promotes new associate principal. Parallel has promoted Austin Lewis to the position of Associate Principal. In his expanded role, Lewis will continue to contribute to Parallel's pipeline of student housing projects, furthering the firm's mission to create innovative, world-class student living environments.
