NEWS ROUNDUP

ACQUISITION: College Town Communities acquires 528 beds. College Town Communities has acquired U Club Townhomes at Oxford, a 528-bed student housing community in Oxford, Mississippi, in a deal brokered by TSB Realty. The acquisition expands College Town Communities’ portfolio to 13 student housing properties across 10 universities in seven states, following its purchase last year of The French Quarter, a 449-bed student housing asset in Auburn, Alabama.

DEVELOPMENT: Ole Miss and Greystar break ground on $101 million residence hall. A public-private partnership between the University of Mississippi and Greystar has begun construction on Kincannon Hall, a $101 million residence hall project on the Oxford campus that will deliver 1,282 beds in semi-suite layouts ahead of the 2027–2028 academic year.

DEVELOPMENT: UC Berkeley to guarantee two years of housing for incoming freshmen. Beginning this fall, UC Berkeley will guarantee two years of on-campus housing for all incoming first-year students. The milestone is being made possible by major new projects including Bancroft-Fulton, a 23-story student housing tower with more than 1,600 beds, a two-story dining hall, and study lounges on every floor, and Heumann House, which will add apartment-style housing for 1,100 undergraduate students along with a ground-level grab-and-go market.

DEVELOPMENT: Pinecrest to deliver 605-bed student housing tower near Texas A&M. Pinecrest is developing The Penny, a 20-story student apartment tower near Texas A&M that is expected to open before the 2027 school year with 605 beds across 199 units. The development team includes Rhode Partners, Rycon Construction, Mitchell & Morgan, and Rhode Interior Design, while CIBC USA and First Bank of Chicago provided construction financing. The project has also chosen Century Square for its leasing office and showroom, placing it near retail, restaurants, entertainment, Class-A office space, two full-service hotels, and luxury apartments at 100 Park.
