NEWS ROUNDUP

DISPOSITION: GREA sells 273-bed student housing portfolio. GREA has sold a 191-unit, 273-bed off-campus student housing portfolio in State College, PA, near Pennsylvania State University. The four-property portfolio includes Lenwood Place, Mt. Nittany Apartments, Allen Park Apartments, and College Park—all within walking distance of Penn State’s main campus. Ken Wellar of GREA noted such value-add opportunities near the university are rare. The buyer, a joint venture between Ethos Residential and Continental Real Estate Management, plans extensive upgrades. Steffan Ramos highlighted this as GREA’s second Northeast portfolio sale of 2025. George Johnson, who led financing, secured a competitive package from a regional lender despite credit market challenges.

DISPOSITION: Newmark sells 102 beds. Newmark has successfully arranged the sale of Campion Lafayette, a 595-bed property in Lafayette, Louisiana. Ryan Lang, Jack Brett, Ben Harkrider, Mallory Rodriguez, Hope Brunner, Annarose Childress, Daley Heller, John Clark, Ben Roelke, Ian Walker, Trent Houchin and Jeff Barnwell are part of Newmark’s student housing team.

DEVELOPMENT: FMU partners with Redwood on housing project. Florida Memorial University is addressing its hiring and student housing challenges by partnering with Redwood on a $500 million–$1 billion development that will include workforce housing and 1,000 new student dorms. The project, led by Redwood principals David Burstyn and Brian Sidman, will include six residential buildings (300 units each), dorms, and upgraded campus amenities. Architect Kobi Karp will design the project to preserve FMU’s legacy while positioning it as an educational hub.

PEOPLE MOVES: Campus Apartments promoted new Chief People Officer. Campus Apartments has promoted Helen Marshall to Chief People Officer, recognizing her longstanding leadership in human resources and employee engagement. Marshall, who joined the company in 2007 as VP of Human Resources, will now lead with an expanded focus on employee well-being and culture across Campus’ national workforce. President and CIO Daniel Bernstein praised her empathy-driven leadership.
