NEWS ROUNDUP
ACQUISITION: Subtext and Nuveen acquire 626-bed community in Orlando. Subtext and Nuveen have acquired Verve Orlando, a student housing community currently under construction and scheduled for completion in 2026. The property sits on 3.13 acres 0.2 miles south of UCF. Dwell Design Studio is the architect, with interior design by ESG Architecture & Design. Subtext’s Brandt Stiles and Nuveen’s Carlos Burneo led the charge on the deal.
DEVELOPMENT: Campus Apartments and Mosaic begin work on $149 million project. Campus Apartments and Mosaic are underway on a 741-bed development at the University of Maryland. The project, which will cost an estimated $149 million ($201,079/bed), is expected to be completed for the 2026-2027 school year. This is the first phase of a planned three-phase development funded through tax-exempt bonds. “This partnership enables the university to address its growing graduate housing demands by leveraging our team’s years of industry expertise and resources” - Daniel Bernstein, CIO, Campus Apartments.
DEVELOPMENT: Gilbane and Purdue Fort Wayne break ground on 600-bed community. Gilbane and PFW held a groundbreaking ceremony for a 600-bed student housing complex on the University’s North Campus. The project will cost somewhere between $90-$100 million and is scheduled to open in August 2026. When completed, the complex will be owned by Strategic Facility Partners and operated by Inwood Management. Key stakeholders taking part in the groundbreaking ceremony included Geoff Eisenacher, Glen Nakata, Jeffrey Resetco, Ron Elsenbaumer, Dana Berkes, Ian Hyatt and Krissy Surface.
DEVELOPMENT: Landmark files plans for 12-story high-rise near UCLA. Landmark has filed plans to build a 84-unit high-rise that would replace a pair of older, two-story apartments. If approved, the new building, dubbed The Metropolitan at Los Angeles, would be Landmark’s third development in Los Angeles. “This neighborhood is desperately in need of newly built, high-quality housing, especially affordable units, as the majority of residential opportunities are in older buildings” - Jason Doornbos, Landmark.
PEOPLE MOVES: Tailwind Group appoints new executives. Tailwind Group has appointed Brandon Smith to the roles of president and CEO. Lane Gravley, the current president, will move to the role of chief people officer.
