NEWS ROUNDUP

DISPOSITION: Walker & Dunlop brokers student housing sale. Walker & Dunlop has arranged the sale and acquisition financing for The Woodlands of College Station, a 769-bed student housing property near Texas A&M. The community was sold by Interwest Capital to an undisclosed buyer. The deal was facilitated by Chris Epp, Matthew Chase, Craig Miller, Holden Penn, Ben Sarna, Sarah Foronda, Naomi Bludworth, Will Baker, William Shell, Jonathan Schwartz, Michael Ianno, Sean Reimer, Mike Shropshire, and Doug McDaniel of Walker & Dunlop. Financing terms and buyer identity were not disclosed.

DEVELOPMENT: GTIS expands student housing footprint with Auburn JV. GTIS Partners and RISE have expanded their partnership to develop RISE Auburn, a 718-bed, 240-unit student housing community located half a mile from Auburn University. GTIS Vice President of Acquisitions Casey Chayet emphasized the venture’s alignment with SEC school opportunities, following their successful collaboration at Ole Miss on Ivy & Elm. RISE CEO Ryan Holmes highlighted the shared commitment to delivering modern, high-quality student housing tailored to student needs.

DEVELOPMENT: LTCC opens first on-campus housing with full state funding. Lake Tahoe Community College has opened its first-ever on-campus housing, a 100-bed residence hall fully funded by nearly $40 million in the 2022–2023 California state budget. LTCC President Jeff DeFranco celebrated the achievement as a “full circle moment,” highlighting that every bed is priced below market rate to ensure affordability.

DEVELOPMENT: Michigan Tech opens residence hall. Michigan Technological University has opened East Hall, a 126,000-square-foot, 512-bed residence hall. Michigan Tech President Rick Koubek called it a “gateway to campus” and a reflection of the university’s investment in student success and sustainability.
