NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: Landmark to build 546-bed project near Penn State. Landmark Properties, in partnership with Golden Primera and Peninsula Investments, has acquired an 11.2-acre site in State College, Pennsylvania for the development of The Retreat at Westerly, a 546-bed off-campus student housing community designed to serve Pennsylvania State University students.

DEVELOPMENT: Core Spaces and Wexford break ground on 30-story tower in Tempe. Core Spaces, in partnership with Wexford Developments, has officially broken ground on Hub on Campus Tempe, a 30-story, mixed-use student housing tower that will bring nearly 2,000 beds to the Arizona State University area and downtown Tempe. Scheduled for completion in summer 2028, the development is being financed by Kennedy Wilson, with TSB Capital Advisors serving as transaction consultant. Findorff is the general contractor, RSP Architects is leading the design, and Core Spaces’ in-house team is handling interiors.

DEVELOPMENT: Audit flags San Jose and CSU over grant use for housing project. A state audit has raised serious concerns about San Jose State University’s plan to purchase Spartan Village, a recently opened student housing facility, using $89 million in state grant funds originally allocated for a different project — Campus Village 3. According to the audit, the California State University (CSU) system failed to follow proper procedures and state law by redirecting funds without submitting Spartan Village for formal approval through the Higher Education Student Housing Grant Program.

DEVELOPMENT: Landmark launches 1,350-bed student housing projects near UConn. Landmark Properties is moving forward with two off-campus student housing developments near UConn Storrs, totaling 1,350 beds. The first, The Mark Mansfield, will deliver 738 beds and retail space on the former Huskies Tavern site. The second, The Hub, is still under negotiation. Both projects are supported by UConn easement agreements, shuttle access, and parking coordination.
