NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: Gilbane and Rocky Mountain mark opening of 451 beds at University of Idaho. Gilbane Development, Rocky Mountain Companies and the University of Idaho have celebrated the opening of Vandal Village, a 240-unit, 451-bed community for graduate students and student families at 1010 Deakin Avenue in Moscow, Idaho. The furnished two- to four-bedroom apartments include kitchens, in-unit laundry and air conditioning, with shared study and gathering spaces in a community center. The project forms part of a $135 million campus housing renovation and redevelopment program. Geoff Eisenacher, executive development director at Gilbane, said the apartments support how graduate students and families live and study.

DEVELOPMENT: Radnor advances $147 million, 793-bed project. Radnor Property Group and Madrone Community Development Foundation have celebrated the groundbreaking of The Den at Eight50 West, a $147 million student housing development serving Morehouse and Spelman colleges in Atlanta. The community at 850 West End Avenue will provide 793 beds in 305 apartment-style units, with study rooms, a fitness room, lounges and outdoor recreation space. Construction began in July, and occupancy is expected in fall 2028. Tim Gigliotti, Radnor’s managing director of development, said the partnership will support both colleges’ campus and enrollment growth.

LEASING: McGrath’s 736-bed Wyatt is fully occupied near Texas Tech. McGrath Real Estate’s The Wyatt, a 736-bed student housing community near Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, is 100% occupied and more than 30% preleased for fall 2027. The community was completed in 2025 and reached full preleasing for the current academic year in May. It offers one- through five-bedroom residences ranging from 570 to 2,041 square feet, plus a pool, pickleball courts, an outdoor amphitheater, coworking space and shuttle service to campus.

DEVELOPMENT: Morehead State breaks ground on an 80-plus-bed residence hall. Morehead State University has broken ground on a roughly 40,000-square-foot residence hall at the former Butler Hall site on Vaughn Drive in Morehead, Kentucky. The building will provide more than 80 beds in two-person micro-apartments, each with two private bedrooms and a shared restroom. Trustees approved the project in June, and the university held the ceremony on October 23. President Jay Morgan said the investment will help renew campus housing and support student success. The project joins Prefontaine Hall, which opened in August, and Martin Hall, which is scheduled to open in 2027.
