NEWS ROUNDUP

ACQUISITION: HH Group acquires 212-bed community. HH Group has acquired a 197-unit, 212-bed student housing community in Washington, D.C., adjacent to George Washington University, for an undisclosed price through its HH Fund investment arm. The property, which will be rebranded as Haven on K, was previously acquired by the Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association for about $119.5 million in 2017. The deal expands HH Group’s metro Washington student housing portfolio to three assets.

DEVELOPMENT: University of Utah opens 1,447-bed residence hall in Utah. The University of Utah is opening a new 1,447-bed residence hall in Salt Lake City as part of President Taylor Randall’s broader push to transform the historically commuter-oriented campus into a more residential “college town.” The $155 million development was delivered through a public-private partnership with American Campus Communities and includes two six-story wings totaling 349,342 square feet. Sean Grube, associate vice president of Housing and Dining Programs, said the project was designed around community-building rather than simply adding beds, with amenities including dining venues, shared kitchens, an indoor bouldering room, fitness center, gaming hub, outdoor patio, bike facilities and ski and snowboard storage.

DEVELOPMENT: Purdue Fort Wayne completes $100 million development. Purdue University Fort Wayne has completed a roughly $100 million, 601-bed student housing development designed to address sustained demand for on-campus housing. The 213,000-square-foot project was developed through a public-private partnership with Gilbane Development Co. and includes 176 fully furnished studio, two-bedroom and four-bedroom apartment-style units. Chancellor Ron Elsenbaumer said the development supports the university’s broader role in attracting and preparing talent for northeast Indiana’s workforce.

PEOPLE MOVES: CRG appoints new SVP of Sales and Marketing. CRG has appointed student housing veteran Carly Shepherd as senior vice president of sales and marketing, where she will lead leasing, pricing and marketing strategy across the firm’s Chapter student housing and multifamily portfolio. JJ Smith, executive vice president and partner for CRG’s residential group, said Shepherd’s operating and leasing experience will support the continued national expansion of the Chapter platform.
