NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: University of Tennessee, RISE and Provident open 1,024-bed residence hall. The University of Tennessee, Knoxville has opened an eight-floor, 1,024-bed residence hall built through a public-private partnership with RISE Real Estate and Provident Resources Group, as enrollment is expected to pass 41,000. Vice Chancellor for Student Life Frank Cuevas said the partnership with RISE helps meet growing demand for on-campus housing and supports student success and retention. Chancellor Donde Plowman and UT System President Randy Boyd led the dedication. Jeremy Doss of RISE and Marla Scannicchio of Provident also attended.

DEVELOPMENT: Starwood and Trinitas form JV. Starwood Capital Group and Trinitas Ventures have formed a joint venture to develop three student housing communities totaling 2,046 beds. The projects are a 672-bed development near Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood, a 677-bed development near the University of Oklahoma in Norman and a 697-bed development near the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Ryan Lang led Newmark's student housing team in arranging the joint venture.

DEVELOPMENT: Dinerstein, Up Campus and Harrison Street open 873 beds. The Dinerstein Companies has opened a 19-story, 873-bed student housing high-rise in College Station's Northgate District near Texas A&M University, developed in a joint venture with Up Campus Student Living and Harrison Street Asset Management. Up Campus was co-developer, TDC Construction was general contractor, Dwell Design Studio was architect and B2 Design Co handled interior design. Todd Gaines, development partner at Dinerstein, said the project is the firm's third development in College Station in the past decade and reflects its focus on upscale student living. Stephen Bus of Up Campus said the project reflects the firm's focus on locations next to strong research universities. The building will pursue Fitwel certification.

DEVELOPMENT: Landmark raises $140 million in initial close of $500 million fund. Landmark Properties has raised about $140 million in the initial closing of Landmark Realty Partners II, a fund targeting $500 million for value-add student housing acquisitions in the U.S. Chairman and CEO Wes Rogers said the support reflects partner confidence in Landmark's vertically integrated platform and lets the firm target undermanaged or undercapitalized assets. President and CIO Walt Templin said the firm can buy well-located, well-occupied but under-rented properties and improve both operations and the buildings through its in-house teams.
