NEWS ROUNDUP

DISPOSITION: IPA arranged sale of 212-bed asset. HH Fund has acquired a 197-unit, 212-bed student housing property from Heitman in the West End neighborhood of Washington, D.C., next to The George Washington University. Institutional Property Advisors brokered the sale, and the price was not disclosed. IPA Executive Managing Director Peter Katz, Senior Managing Directors Robert Dean and Jonathan Greenberg, and Brian Hosey, Marcus & Millichap's broker of record in Washington, D.C., represented the seller and procured the buyer.

ACQUISITION: GMH and Invesco acqurie 364-bed portfolio in Indiana. GMH Communities and Invesco Real Estate have acquired a two-property, 176-unit, 364-bed student housing portfolio serving Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Randall Calvert of TSB Realty was the exclusive sales broker. GMH CEO and President Gary Holloway Jr. said the properties are the type of communities the firm looks for as it grows its student housing portfolio. Scott Hirshman, VP of acquisitions at GMH, said rents remain well below newer pedestrian properties with similar access to campus, which supports occupancy and leaves room for rent growth. Jay Hurley, managing director of acquisitions at Invesco Real Estate, said student housing remains a high-conviction sector for the firm and the deal fits its focus on well-located assets with durable demand.

DEVELOPMENT: Wentworth breaks ground on $200 million residence hall. Wentworth Institute of Technology has broken ground on a $200 million, 18-story, 240,450-square-foot residence hall in Boston that will house 972 students and bring its entire first-year residential class into one building. It is the largest capital project in the school's history and is being delivered through a public-private partnership, with Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions as developer, Perkins&Will as architect, BOND Building Construction as builder and BR+A Consulting Engineers as engineer.

PEOPLE MOVES: Triad names senior managing director to open Tampa Bay office. Triad Real Estate Partners has hired Dorothy Jackman, a 25-year student housing brokerage veteran, as senior managing director on its student housing team, and she will open the firm's new Tampa Bay office. Founding Partner Sean Lyons said Jackman is one of the most established names in the business and her hire supports Triad's national expansion.
