NEWS ROUNDUP

M&A: Yugo acquires Campus Advantage. Yugo has acquired Austin-based Campus Advantage, adding 88 properties and nearly 40,000 beds across 28 U.S. states. Campus Advantage founder Mike Peter will become CEO of Yugo U.S., joining Yugo’s global executive team, while Jim Sholders, formerly of Campus Life & Style and American Campus Communities, will serve as president of Yugo U.S.

ACQUISITION: Tailwind Group buys 648-bed student housing in Morgantown. Tailwind Group has acquired The Lofts Morgantown, a 218-unit, 648-bed student housing community in Morgantown, West Virginia—its fifth student housing acquisition this year. The deal was brokered by CBRE’s William Vonderfecht, and the seller was Arizona State Retirement System, which had purchased the asset in 2021 from Pierce Education Properties. Tailwind will begin renovations this fall, focusing on the leasing office, clubhouse, and amenities. The 2011-built property spans nearly 16 acres and includes a fitness center, pool, business center, game room, and study lounges.

DEVELOPMENT: University of Mississippi partners with Greystar for 2,700 new student beds. The University of Mississippi has partnered with Greystar to develop two new student housing complexes totaling 2,700 beds on its Oxford campus. The Kincannon site will include 1,200 beds and a parking garage, while the West Row site across from the UM School of Law will offer 1,500 beds, a parking garage, and a dining facility. Rooms are expected to be available by 2027.

DEVELOPMENT: MTSU and The Annex Group plan 554-bed campus housing project. Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and The Annex Group have unveiled plans for Wommack Lane Commons, a 554-bed student residence set to replace the aging Wommack Lane Apartments. Pending State Building Commission approval in November, construction is scheduled to start in January 2026 and wrap by fall 2027. Designed by Smith Gee Studios and SCB, the project will feature semi-suite and suite-style units, community lounges, study spaces, and a landscaped courtyard. The Annex Group will serve as developer, general contractor, and asset manager, while MTSU will manage leasing and residence life.
